At this time, Rev. Johnathan Marsh , our vice moderator, came forward to deliver the Introductory Sermon. .
Rev. Marsh stated that he was nervous over the seriousness of this opportunity. He encouraged those present to remember the altar is always open for prayer. He read Joshua 4:1-9. The “stones” from the reading was for a reason, a memorial, to represent the Salvation of the Lord.
The people then were to tell their children, when asked, about His Salvation and His Deliverance. Rev. Marsh stated he is concerned today that the church has stopped telling our children about His Deliverance. The church burdened to even come to church but it should not be so. We should count it a blessing to be able to get to go to church.
Repentance means taking one burdens to the cross and allow God to make the changes in our life. Some preachers may water-down the gospel but we cannot if we want to help our friends to get to Heaven. Our Introduction is “come to God.” We should put our priorities in order and attend all the services of the Association. Getting close to God will do us more good than making money and saving money in our bank account. We are in a famine of hearing the true Word of God in our hearts.
Rev. Marsh proclaimed, when we come to church we have something to celebrate if we know the Lord. We have to stand on ever single truth. We need men that are ordained to stand on the entire word not just one that has only one wife. We cannot be ashamed to get on our knees and cry out to God. Christians should be showing their children that their parents will bow and call on God for forgiveness and help. We are starving for the Word of God and do not even realize it.
In closing, Rev. Marsh challenged our association to lean on His understanding and to preach the Word as it is the Gospel. He asked the question, “Where do you stand with God?”
An altar invitation was extended. Right hand of Christian fellowship followed.
At this time, Rev. Donald Key came forward to give a report on behalf of General Baptist Headquarters. He thanked our association for standing for God for 138 years, encouraging us to stay committed. We have more missionaries on the foreign field today than in many years. A new church is beginning in Cookeville, Tennessee. He report on an Espanola Mission in North Carolina. He report that the General Baptist Messengers is received by 20,000 homes and it is free, if anyone wants to receive it just contact Headquarters. Key thanked everyone for supporting our local missions and local churches. He also report that Sean Warren has resigned his position as International Missions director and that he himself as also resigned his position as director of National Missions. Rev. Key closed his report by praying for our association.

Saturday Morning
Services began at 10:00 a.m. with congregational singing led by Rev. Matthew McGuire, Bro. Alan Sullivan, and Sis. Reba Walrond at the piano. Song: “Oh What A Savior” and “I Want To Be Ready To Meet Him.”
Welcome was extended by Rev. David Simmons on behalf of Union Hill and Union Chapel, our host churches. He welcomed everyone and encouraged our body.

Visitors recognized at this time:
Rev. Gary Pardue, Portland Association and Bro. Brian Baker, Oakland City University..
Devotional was conducted at this time by Bro. David Scruggs. Mark 10:46-52 and Luke 17:6 was used for devotional text. Prayer request given, United prayer was offered around the altar.
A love offering was received for the upkeep of the tabernacle.
Rev. Willie B. Lyles came forward to deliver the Doctrinal Sermon.. Rev. Lyles said that he counted it an honor to be a General Baptist. He said he was honored to be a member of the Mt. Union Association.
Rev. Lyles ask everyone to stand in honor of the two ministers the Association had lost this past year. Rev. Alburn Gilliam and Rev. Maxie Wilson was given a moment of remembrance and to honor their legacy.
At this time, Rev. Lyles read I Timothy 4:1, Revelation 22;18-19 and Psalms 68:11. He quoted Article 1. He referred to it as being true from Genesis 1:1 to the last “amen” in Revelation. People ask, “where did the Bible come from?”, the answer “God gave it and man penned it.” Is a man is not using the King James, he is not using the truth.
Rev. Lyles proclaimed, “When you begin to put down General Baptists, then you are on the fighting side of me.” He stated that he told someone once, that they could talk about him and it did not matter but if they talked about his wife that he was going to defend her by telling him “he was fixing feed him some teeth and they were going to be his.”
The Lord is coming back after “His Church” not a center or a ministry. One of the biggest problems among General Baptist is false doctrine. When someone preaches the Word of God, that is General Baptist.
Article Two. We believe in One God but in three parts. We believe in the God-head, Father, Son and Spirit. He stated “when they bury Bro. Lyles that they will not be burying Bro. Lyles.” The ones that are going to Heaven are the Children of God who have been faithful.
Article 4. We read Article 4, Christ finished the complete. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life.
Rev. Lyles quoted Article 5. We must resist the devil. Rev. Eugene Keen, Rev. Lyles explained, that he told us during a Doctrinal Sermon in years past, that he was a General Baptist from the top of my head to the bottom of his feet. If someone worships in show and for getting attention, it is not of God, it is a mockery of God.
He quoted Article 11. God is not wanted in our schools, our homes or our governments. AND in some cases God is not wanted in our churches either. We use Biblical guidelines in ordaining our ministers and deacons. It is not because we have anything against other men but we stand to the Biblical guideline.
He referred to Article 7 and Article 12. We believe in being baptized all over.
He referred to Article 13, we are one at His table.
In closing, Rev. Lyles challenged the hearers to read over all 13 Articles of our faith, study them and put them into practice, then we will find ourselves closer to God.
Another song for invitation of altar prayer. Right hand of Christian fellowship.
At this time, Bro. Brian Baker came to report on behalf of Oakland City University. He read John 1:1-14. He stated the freshman enrollment has increased 30% this year. He quoted Dr. Ray Barber stating OCU is about the heads, hands, and hearts. He shared stories from students explaining why OCU is different from other universities.

Benediction, voiced by Brian Baker.

Bro. Billy Pardue
Tithing and Finance
(Appointed)
We the Committee on Tithing and Finance want to remind each one of you what finance and tithing is all about. Finance is the management of the allotted funds that you have. We believe that God expects us to be good stewards of all that he has entrusted unto us, time, and talent and yes, tithes too. In II Corinthians 9:6-7 this is what Paul told the Christians there, But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.
If you want your life to be blessed give your tithes like the Bible teaches---if we want out churches to be blessed like the church of Macedonia was, then we must give liberally of our tithes and offerings. Paul said back in Chapter 8:2 that in a great trail of affliction they had an abundance of joy—and in their deep poverty they abounded unto riches—he said it was of their liberality. Another words the church of Macedonia were willing to give freely, liberally of what they had and God blessed them for it. And for those that may have forgotten or don’t just don’t know, a tithe is the first tenth of our increase or income, and God requires we give Him, what He is due.
Rev. Lawrence Gilliam
Bro. Dwight Johnston
Bro. Alan Sullivan
Moral and Social Issues
(Appointed)
We would like to urge each one of you, beginning with the preachers and deacons, and then the lay members to live a more sincere life of prayer so our lives would be a greater influence on this lost and dying world. We have to stay strong in our faith. We are examined daily! We cannot accept “the anything goes policy” that has swept this nation, without falling into corruption ourselves. We must pray for each other and our churches to become stronger in the Lord. We have hope in Jesus Christ.
Bro. Darrel Woods
Rev. Donald Huntsman
Bro. Eddie Woods
Education Committee
(Appointed)
We, the committee on Education, believe it is time that Christian Education , also be learned from the home and not just at church. In today’s society, everyone’s wanting to pass the buck to someone else, on why our children are not spiritually strong as they should be. We believe Sunday School is important but it’s only once a week. Vacation Bible School is also important, but it’s only one week out of the year. And that Christian Training, such as Christian Training Institute (CTI) is a great resource for learning. And we encourage these studies. But let’s be honest, if our children don’t see their parents having study time, in the Bible, at home. And they don’t see their parents praying at home. And if they don’t see their parents living out their Christian life at home. Then will they truly grow? Will they see the need to learn more about Jesus. We as parents “must live it real before our children if we really want them to grow in the Lord. One way is by teaching them to hunger and thirst after righteousness. If we parents hunger for the Gospel’s sake, using the tools our churches have put in place. But not stopping there, taking home the lessons and messages we have at church and discussing them at home. Then and only then, will we see the need to reach “higher” in our own “Christian Education.” Lead by example.
Rev. Gary Sullivan
Bro. Robbie Williams
Bro. Freddie Fuqua
Sunday School Committee
(Appointed)
We, your committee on Sunday School, wish to encourage all our churches to continue the work toward a vibrant, active Sunday School. People especially our young need to be rooted in God’s word. We encourage our churches to seek out the very best teachers and leaders available to lead our Sunday School classes. Then we need to support our Sunday School in word and deed. It is a worthy effort to invest dollars into our Sunday Schools. We encourage our church leaders to be active participants in Sunday School. Sunday School should be promoted at every opportunity.
